A new exhibit is open featuring the rifle found leaning against a tree

“The Forgotten Winchester” was found by Great Basin National Park staff in November 2014 leaning up against a tree in the middle of a forested area. Who did the rifle belong to? Why was it left there? And many other questions were inspired by the Forgotten Winchester. The rifle still has its serial number but the only information we know for certain is it was manufactured in 1882. Continue reading

Car Show to Raise Preservation Funds for Dangberg Historic Park

Classic cars will come to downtown Minden on August 23-24 for a public event to raise restoration funds for the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

The completion of the transcontinental railroad in the spring of 1869 changed America forever, dramatically reducing the time and cost for people and goods to move across country and accelerating the western expansion of the industrial revolution.

This spring, the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will unveil a major new exhibit: “The Transcontinental Railroad: What a Difference it Made”. The centerpiece of the new exhibit is the only railroad car still in existence that was at Promontory the day the railroads came together – a milestone day in the history of the country. STAR SIGHTINGS: MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

South Lake Tahoe’s highly touted fireworks extravaganza show will paint the sky for the 38th consecutive year. South Shore continuously draws an enthusiastic group to celebrate Independence Day by pairing sounds of American classics and today’s top hits to perfectly executed pyrotechnics (tahoesouth.com). “Lights on the Lake” entails 25 minutes of bright lights and colors that illuminate the night sky. The firework display is sponsored by Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority and produced by Zambelli Fireworks. The show will begin at 9:45 pm with simulcast on local radio stations KRTL–FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490.

The 30th annual American Century Championship, the No. 1 celebrity golf tournament in the U.S., will bring a star-studded line-up of more than 80 athletes and Hollywood stars to Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, July 9-14. Televised on NBC Sports, superstars and longtime favorites include defending champion Tony Romo, current NFL All-Pros, 16 Hall of Famers, and Hollywood entertainers, country artists and comedians.
