A new exhibit is open featuring the rifle found leaning against a tree

“The Forgotten Winchester” was found by Great Basin National Park staff in November 2014 leaning up against a tree in the middle of a forested area. Who did the rifle belong to? Why was it left there? And many other questions were inspired by the Forgotten Winchester. The rifle still has its serial number but the only information we know for certain is it was manufactured in 1882. Continue reading

Strawberry Creek Area of Great Basin National Park Opening to Visitors in May 2019

Some trails and part of the road will remain closed

Great Basin National Park has spent two years working on the post-fire recovery of the Strawberry Creek area. Aerial seeding, tree removal and control of noxious weeds have helped to establish a healthy, post-fire plant community of grasses, shrubs and wildflowers.

Maintenance crews are working on roads and trails to allow visitor access by May 1, 2019. Continue reading
