28th annual World Championship Outhouse Races
Return to Virginia City October 7&8
Legend has it that when outdoor plumbing was outlawed, residents took to the streets to protest. Instead of wielding signs, the angry residents brought their outhouses. Now in its 28th year, the annual World Championship Outhouse Races taking place Oct. 7 – 8 is all about having fun, with lots of potty humor and souped-up outhouses. Teams of three are pitted against each other in an all-out potty race to pass the toilet paper finish line and claim the latrine title. With clever names such as “Classic Crapper” or “Stool Shed” this event never disappoints with wacky entertainment for the whole family.
The parade of Outhouses begins at noon Saturday, October 7, with races following with three-man, double elimination heats. The races continue Sunday, October 8 at noon and concludes with the crowning of the champion outhouse racing team.
Admission is free.
For those interested in racing against these potty veterans, registration is open now through the week of the event for the three-man teams. Main rule is that the toilets must be functioning, but not used.
